Survey

I took a survey on 30 random year 8 students at my school to gather data about animal testing.

The following questions were:
*  Do you think that animal testing of cancer drugs on animals is acceptable?

* How meaningful is animal welfare to you?

* Do you support animal testing on make-up, perfumes and cleaning products?

* Do you think animal testing should be illegal?    why?

I got an outstanding gather of data.  Everyone I surveyed said they do not agree with animal testing and think it should be banned.

Why? was also one of my questions and here are some of the answers I gathered:

- They should test it on humans and see exactly how they feel.
- Animals don't wear make-up.
- Animals shouldn't be treated differently to humans .
- It is wrong, a lot of animals die from it and it is basically just torture.
- It's not fair for animals to be treated differently.
- Animals are innocent and don't know how to speak up for themselves in a way which will reach humans.
- These are poor innocent animals and very bad people, who do you stand up for?
- Animal are just like humans.
- It's mean.
- How does it prove it's healthy on a human if it was tested on a animal, hey lets just test on humans!
- Most animals get killed, and they don't even wear make-up.
- Kills animals.
- We shouldn't be doing this to poor innocent animals.
- It's wrong to test on animals when it is putting their life in danger and then get rid of them when the tests are done.
- It's unfair animals are breed to be tested on knowing that today could be their last day.

I created a online survey to see what other people in the world's views and opinions are on this topic. It will only take a minute and it will be much appreciated.

Hi

Hi my name is Karen, I am thirteen years old and I am very passionate about animals.
I want to be a vet when I am older, so animal welfare is an important issue to me.
I strongly believe animal welfare should be important to our community and the issue should be raised.  When you think about "community" the first thing that will come to your mind is us, the care and safety of us, but what about the other creatures in this world who can't speak up for themselves and don't have a say, they are part of our community as well aren't they?

We need to step up and start to take notice and stop being so selfish and thinking that the community is just us. We need to open our eyes to the problem around us - that is animal testing.

I hope this blog has made a powerful impact on how you think about animal testing.

I chose this issue because I feel the safety of animals and animal testing isn't being raised enough and the word or definition of community is being limited. Animals have a right to feel safe, they are part of our community. Because they can't speak up for themselves they are suffering silently so they need someone else to bring up this issue for them. Animal welfare is an important issue to me so I want to raise the awareness.

I chose this way to present it because how many views will one poster see sitting in your class room? Whereas the whole world can see this and interact and comment. I have displayed it this way so I branch out to more people with this issue, that way it will raise more awareness.

I have made this visual information very effective with the bold, different colours used to display this text. I have also retrieved my information from a range of places to back it up. A Survey online and in my class, YouTube videos, and very visual effective photos. Research I have done on the web I have re-worded into my own text.

This issue is not the most prominent one in the community, which is why I am trying to raise the awareness of it.  When we think about community, we just think about us which is selfish.  If you think about it, animals are very much a part of our community as they bring us much companionship and happiness.

By Karen.

I found my facts from:http://www.dosomething.org/tipsandtools/11-facts-about-animal-testing
I got the pictures from Google images and I retrieved my videos from YouTube.

Facts I Bet You Didn't Know

* Over 100 Million animals every year are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused.

* 92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because they are too dangerous or don't work.

* Even animals that are protected under the AWA can be abused and tortured, and the law doesn't require the use of valid alternatives to animals, even if they are viable.

* According to the humane society, registration of a single pesticide requires more than 50 experiments and the use of as many as 12,000 animals.

* Several cosmetic tests commonly performed on mice, rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs include:
Skin and eye irritation tests where chemicals are rubbed on shaved skin or dripped into the eyes without pain relief.

* Repeat force-feeding studies that last weeks, or months to look for signs of general illness or specific health hazards.

* Widely condemned "lethal dose" tests, where animals are forced to swallow large amounts of a test chemical to determine what dose causes death.

* Other tests involve killing pregnant animals and testing their foetuses.

* The real life applications for some of the tested substances are as trivial as an "improved" laundry detergent, new eye shadow, or copy cat drugs to replace a profitable pharmaceutical whose patent expired

-  I mean, do we really need synthetic highs, and if make-up has bad chemicals in it why would we want to put it on our faces anyway. With all the massive job cuts why not hire a few human guinea pigs for the trials and see how they like it.

Animals

Animals are still suffering and dying for tests, such as those on lipstick, shampoo, cleaners, moisturisers, drugs, medicines and so much more.
Animals have chemicals forced down their throats, dripped into their eyes and onto their shaved skin. It's the ugly secret of the beauty industry that needs to be opened up.

Why should animals have to suffer for the vain and greedy people of this world?
Check this video out it is going to blow your mind and make you think twice about washing your hair and putting on make-up.

It got me thinking, if there are so many chemicals in these products and we know that they are bad, why do we still use them? Why do we still try to prove that they are okay to use and we test them on poor innocent animals who don't even use them!
